About the Choirs

Our Mission

The Bellevue High School Choirs harness the power of music to connect our community’s diverse communities, cultivate empathy, and inspire social inquiry.

Concert Choir
The Concert Choir sings a wide variety of choral music including standard classics, folk and popular American music, and music originating from other cultures. This performance-based choir requires day and evening concerts and participation in musical events outside of the school day. Students become more independent as singers as they are taught proper vocal technique and performance skills leading students toward self-confidence and growth as ensemble singers. Teamwork, self-confidence, and a sense of accomplishment are common outcomes from the choral experience.

Treble Choir
The Bellevue High School Treble Choir is a select auditioned ensemble of 30-40 voices comprising of grades 10-12 with an emphasis on choral excellence featuring treble voices. Students perform several different genres of music from several different time periods. They will learn skills such as adapting and changing tone color, vibrato, and diction to fit varying styles. This is also a performance-based choir which requires day and evening concerts as well as participation in music events outside of the school day. The overarching goal of this ensemble is to create independent vocalists that have the skills to operate free of teacher instruction in small ensembles and in other musical choir/vocal settings. Through rigorous choral curriculum, students will be exemplary, independent vocalists and will be the leaders of the music program at Bellevue High School.

Chorale
The Bellevue High School Chorale is an auditioned ensemble of 60-80 voices with an focus on choral excellence for all voice types. This auditioned choir is open to students grades 10-12 with an emphasis on leadership and humanity through choral music. This group performs difficult literature in a variety of genres and styles. Through rigorous choral curriculum, students will be exemplary, independent vocalists and will be the leaders of the music program at Bellevue High School.

Bellairs
The Bellevue High School Bellairs is an award-winning vocal jazz ensemble open to high school students (9-12) by audition only. Accompanied by a rhythm section (piano, bass, drums, guitar), this ensemble meets daily before school at 7:00 am and travels frequently attending jazz festivals and workshops throughout the year. This group performs difficult literature ranging from 4 to 12 parts in a variety of styles including swing, blues, Latin, funk, and more. This group is the most demanding of the choral ensembles at Bellevue High School. Students in Bellairs must be enrolled in a large music ensemble at BHS (band/choir/orchestra).
